The Plenary and residents of Berrocal are demanding from the Government, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Provincial Council of Huelva a rescue that guarantees the municipality's survival after the devastating fire. The blaze affected between 11,250 and 11,875 hectares of forest, pasture, and land linked to forestry, livestock, beekeeping, agriculture, and tourism.
The Provincial Council of Huelva has approved an extraordinary aid of 20,000 euros for Berrocal. This contribution, arriving as the municipality seeks comprehensive rescue, also includes administrative assistance with personnel dedicated to coordinating contracts and aid applications.
In an extraordinary plenary session, Mayor Ángel Luis Romero conveyed the town's unity, calling for "unity of action" from all public administrations. The Central Government is requested to declare the area as severely affected by a civil protection emergency, the Regional Government of Andalusia to declare it a natural disaster with a focus on agricultural and forestry productive potential, and the Provincial Council for all possible technical and human support.
Recovery proposals include urgent actions to contain soil loss, protect aquifers, and restore vegetation cover. The reduction of eucalyptus cultivation and its replacement with native species like cork oak, stone pine, holm oak, and carob are planned. The creation of a municipal forestry nursery to generate employment and combat depopulation is also being considered.
The 20,000 euro aid from the Provincial Council equates to between 1.68 and 1.78 euros per affected hectare. This figure contrasts with the institution's 2026 Annual Sponsorship Plan, which allocates 160,000 euros to a stage of the Tour of Spain cycling race, 72,600 to promote Marca Huelva, 60,000 to the National Green Hydrogen Congress, and 30,000 each to documentaries. These five allocations total 352,600 euros, more than 17 times the contribution to Berrocal.
