The initiative, titled “Science and Technology to reduce seismic and tsunami risk in Isla Cristina: ALERT IS. Knowing more to fear less,” took place at the IES Padre J. Miravent as part of the European Researchers' Night. The objective is to deepen the understanding of the municipality's vulnerability to earthquakes and tsunamis to improve municipal planning and emergency response capabilities.
During the meeting, students directly learned about the methods and instruments used by researchers to study these natural risks. The program also included a practical session on geophysical instrumentation and the functioning of early warning systems.
The Mayor of Isla Cristina, Jenaro Orta, emphasized the importance of prevention and citizen awareness. "For this City Council, it is a priority to continue advancing in safety and prevention, working to ensure citizens better understand the natural risks that can affect our municipality and know how to act in response," he stated.
Orta added that "information, awareness, and preparation are fundamental tools for reducing risks and improving our response capacity to potential emergency situations, such as a tsunami." The mayor highlighted the importance of transferring scientific knowledge to municipal planning and to the citizens to be better prepared.

The City Council finally thanked the researchers for their participation, the involvement of all individuals who made the event possible, as well as the collaboration of the IES Padre J. Miravent and its educational community.
