Ayuntamiento de Ayamonte · 2026-10-27

The town of Ayamonte is preparing to host the 31st edition of the X Millas del Guadiana on November 8th, a well-established cross-border sporting event that will start from Vila Real de Santo António.

The race, celebrating its thirty-first edition, has become one of the most significant sporting events in the Guadiana Eurocity. The competition will commence at 11:00 AM, starting from Marquês de Pombal square in Vila Real de Santo António and concluding at Ayamonte's Paseo de la Ribera, passing through emblematic streets of the three participating towns.
Organized by the Joint Sports Commission, the race involves the Municipal Sports Board of Ayamonte City Council, the Municipal Chamber of Vila Real de Santo António, the Municipal Chamber of Castro Marim, and the Grupo Deportivo Pic Nic. The Provincial Council of Huelva also supports the initiative.
Provincial Deputy Manuel Cayuela highlighted the event's sporting and tourist appeal, stating, "This race is one of the most important events, not only sporting but also tourist, of the year due to the large number of participants annually, making it a benchmark on both sides of the border." Cayuela added that the race "symbolizes the union between two municipalities and two countries through the Guadiana River."
Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor for Sports of Ayamonte City Council, Paco Cristóbal, emphasized that "this is one of the most outstanding events in the athletic calendar of western Andalusia and the Portuguese Algarve, as it combines sport, tourism, and coexistence, projecting the image of a shared territory and contributing to strengthening relations between Spain and Portugal."
With an official distance of 10 miles (16,090 meters), the race offers a unique route crossing three cities, two countries, and one territory. A major attraction is crossing the Guadiana International Bridge.
Paco Cristóbal also stressed the importance of "continuing to promote initiatives that encourage sports practice and strengthen ties between the municipalities that make up the Guadiana Eurocity, which this year holds the title of European City of Sport 2026."
The race, with a maximum planned duration of two hours, will feature several refreshment points along the route to ensure participant support.
Registration will be open until November 5th via the official website: www.10millasdelguadiana.com.
