The mayor, Carmen Álvarez, along with the Environment delegate, Carmen Pozo, has met with representatives from Ecologistas en Acción (Environmentalists in Action) to organize the attendance of numerous Sanlúcar residents at the protest. Buses are being arranged to facilitate travel to Seville.
The Sanlúcar council is one of the 15 organizing entities for this march, which aims to demand the suspension of mining discharge permits into the estuary and the application of the precautionary principle. The demonstration will start at 12:00 PM from the Palacio de San Telmo and will proceed along the Guadalquivir's surroundings to the Setas de la Plaza de la Encarnación.
The local government advocates for the protection of the Guadalquivir as a vital ecosystem crucial for economic activities such as fishing. The complaint filed with the Environmental Prosecutor's Office, the allegations dismissed by the Junta de Andalucía regarding the Aznalcóllar mines project, and participation in support meetings for the 'Salvemos el Guadalquivir' Association and the Sanlúcar Fishermen's Guild are recalled.
The mayor has emphasized the importance of Sanlúcar's presence in this mobilization, encouraging citizens to demonstrate in Seville to express their concern over decisions impacting the future of the river and its riverside municipalities.
