The mayor of Sanlúcar, Carmen Álvarez, accompanied by the delegate for Festivities, Narciso Vital, received at the Municipal Palace those who will embody Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar, as well as the Star of the East, Regina Fernández, and the Royal Postman, Fernando Manuel Luna. This meeting, with the presence of the president of the Order of the Three Kings, Juan de Dios Pérez Pozo, symbolizes the start of the countdown to one of the most anticipated nights of the year.
The chosen individuals to portray the Three Kings are José Manuel Navarro as Melchior, a well-known restaurateur and confraternity member committed to charitable causes; Carlos Jiménez as Gaspar, a National Police officer, confraternity member, and Cáritas collaborator; and Juan del Ojo as Balthazar, involved in local entertainment and Carnival. Regina Fernández, the Star of the East, is noted for her joy and enthusiasm, while Fernando Manuel Luna, the Royal Postman, presides over the Youth and Cultural Association 'Ciclo de la Vida'.
The mayor congratulated the appointees, emphasizing the excitement and responsibility that comes with embodying these beloved characters. "From today, you can already feel that magic that reminds us each Christmas of the importance of being children again, and, above all, of thinking about those most in need," stated Álvarez.
Carmen Álvarez highlighted the charitable nature of this tradition in Sanlúcar, thanking the Order of the Three Kings for their work in the 'No child without a toy' campaign. "Because behind the crowns, capes, and stars, there is something much more important: people willing to give their time, effort, and affection so that no child loses hope. This spirit of generosity, which is part of Sanlúcar's Christmas, will once again fill the city with magic," she announced.
The municipal reception marks the beginning of a journey that will culminate on January 5th, when the Three Kings parade through the streets of Sanlúcar, preparing the city for a Christmas where the hope of the youngest will be its main reason for being.
