The city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda reaches the final stretch of the Month of Circumnavigation with a diverse cultural program that will run until Sunday, September 20th.

This final week's schedule combines history, heritage, culture, music, and tradition to commemorate Sanlúcar's role in the First Circumnavigation of the World. The events will take place in various city locations.
The week began with guided tours of the Castillito de Bajo de Guía, home to Exploraterra Sanlúcar, and a sherry tasting accompanied by live music at the La Orilla beach bar.
On Tuesday, the Centro Cultural La Victoria will host the opening of 'I Circunnavegación,' an exhibition by local painter Antonio Mejías, offering an artistic perspective on the historic maritime adventure. The exhibition will be open until October 7th.
Music takes center stage on Wednesday, September 16th, with 'Manzanilla pa' la Carmen,' a unique adaptation of Georges Bizet's opera 'Carmen' by Staff Ópera Club, which uses Sanlúcar and its sherry as a narrative thread. The performance will be at the Auditorio Municipal ‘Manolo Sanlúcar’.
On Thursday, the XI 'Sanlúcar and the Oceans' Forum will hold its final session with a conference titled 'The Hispanic Peso (Real de a Ocho): The First US Dollar,' presented by Carlos Fernández-Andrade Marín, at the Patio de Columnas of the Municipal Palace.
The Month of Circumnavigation will conclude with a special Medieval Market, held throughout the weekend in the Plaza de la Paz. The inauguration is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 PM, with activities for the whole family including period music, crafts, theater, parades, and storytellers. Notably, on Saturday at 9:30 PM, La Banda Morisca will perform a free concert fusing Andalusian and flamenco roots.
Mayor Carmen Álvarez has encouraged residents and visitors to enjoy this final week packed with activities that will mark the end of a month dedicated to highlighting the universal importance of Sanlúcar as the starting and return point of the First World Circumnavigation. The full program is available on the municipal website.
