After receiving a favorable opinion from the Consultative Council of Andalusia, the council will bring the final approval of the reform to the plenary session on Wednesday, April 22. This modification of urban regulations will allow, for the first time, the implementation of tourist, educational, and recreational uses in areas classified as public forests.
The revision of articles 73 and 279 of the general plan is the result of a lengthy coordination process with various administrations. With this progress, the Rota City Council not only seeks to enhance this emblematic environment but also to address its state of abandonment and drastically reduce the environmental risks to which the entire public forest strip was exposed.
The main project that will materialize with this regulatory change is the establishment of a Recreational and Environmental Education Center in the heart of La Forestal. This initiative will be developed in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía, whose Territorial Delegation for Sustainability and Environment will be responsible for the tender process.
The objective is to convert this space into an asset for the city that combines environmental protection with the development of training activities.
With the final approval in the upcoming plenary session, the municipality fulfills the roadmap agreed upon between the mayor's office and the regional government. Rota thus concludes a complex bureaucratic process, opening a new stage for La Forestal that will guarantee its definitive recovery and utilization for the benefit of citizens, safely integrating nature into the future model of the locality.
