The Institute for Employment and Socioeconomic and Technological Development (IEDT) of the Provincial Council of Cádiz is finalizing its participation in the European project Aquafish 0.0. This initiative aims to increase awareness about responsible consumption of marine foods and promote the transformation of the fishing, aquaculture, and hospitality sectors towards a zero-waste philosophy.
Led by the Andalusian Aquaculture Technology Center (CTAQUA), the project involves the collaboration of the IEDT and the participation of a dozen institutions, technology centers, and entities from Spain, Portugal, France, and Ireland. The provincial body's contribution has focused on awareness, education, and training for the reduction of food waste in the marine sector.
Among the IEDT's achievements in this project is the coordination of strategic actors in the province, such as the Fernando Quiñones Hospitality School, the Federation of Hospitality of Cádiz (Horeca), the Federation of Fishermen's Guilds of Cádiz, the International Campus of Excellence of the Sea (CEI·Mar), the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). A network has been established to promote future initiatives in responsible consumption and improvement of productive sectors.
The project has provided international projection to the participating agents. The IEDT has attended working meetings in France, Ireland, and Portugal, and has organized international conferences in Conil and Tarifa, making the province a center for Atlantic debate on sustainable fishing and governance.
Aquafish 0.0, launched in November 2023, has a total investment of over 2.2 million euros, financed by 75% from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 program. The allocation for the IEDT amounts to 172,790 euros.
