The Mayoress, Carmen Álvarez, presented the trophy for the Sanlúcar City Grand Prix this past Sunday, marking the conclusion of the 181st edition of the horse races held on the city's beaches. The event took place over six days in two cycles: August 8, 9, and 10, and August 21, 22, and 23.
Diego Sarabia, riding Flight Leader from the Río Cubas stable, secured victory in the season's most important race. The Sanlúcar City Grand Prix, sponsored by the Sanlúcar City Council and offering 13,600 euros in prizes, was contested over a distance of 2,000 meters. The event drew a large crowd to the beach and the finish line area at Las Piletas, characterized by a positive atmosphere and anticipation.
Carmen Álvarez congratulated the winner and highlighted the “brilliant development” of this edition. She expressed gratitude to the Royal Society of Horse Racing of Sanlúcar, led by its president, Rafael Hidalgo, for their efforts in making the event possible once again, with the full support of the City Council. She also acknowledged the “excellent” work of all the security, emergency, and municipal services involved, underscoring the success in both organization and public attendance over the six days, reinforcing the races as an exceptional event that continues to project an “splendid” image of Sanlúcar worldwide.
The Sanlúcar coastline, with the Guadalquivir River and Doñana as a backdrop, once again transformed into a unique natural racecourse. The competition hosted thoroughbreds from prominent stables and renowned jockeys, solidifying the event as a significant sporting and social gathering with an exceptionally positive impact on the city's economic and tourism activity.
