The solidarity initiative, named ‘Running Through Your Veins’, was presented by the Deputy Mayor for Sports of the Motril City Council, Daniel Ortega Moreno, along with representatives from the CD Trail Running Costa Tropical and the Granada Association of Altruistic Blood Donors (ADSAG).
The route will start on August 21st at 8:00 PM from the Senda del Litoral in Motril and will conclude on August 22nd, around 1:30 PM, at the Fuente de la Bicha promenade in Granada.
Participants will face a demanding course connecting the Mediterranean with the Mulhacén peak, the highest summit in the Iberian Peninsula, passing through locations such as Vélez de Benaudalla, Órgiva, Pampaneira, Bubión, Capileira, Hoya de la Mora, Purche, and Cenes de la Vega.
Seven registered ultra-runners will complete the course, but the organization invites public participation in two specific sections, requiring only the wearing of red clothing to highlight the cause.
The Deputy Mayor for Sports, Daniel Ortega, highlighted sport's capacity to convey messages of effort, self-improvement, camaraderie, and solidarity, emphasizing that donating blood and bone marrow can offer a second chance.
Representatives from the organizing club and one of the runners stressed the difficulty of the route and the strong motivation provided by the solidarity cause, reminding that a simple gesture like donating can save a life.
The main objective is to increase the number of regular blood donors, especially during summer when donations typically decrease, and to extend the message to bone marrow donation, with the collaboration of the association Héroes Hasta la Médula.
