The Motril City Council, through the contracted cleaning service company, has concluded the construction of the waste collection operations base for the cleaning service, situated in the Polígono de Alborán. This initiative responds to the need to reconvert the former municipal facilities following the implementation of the new cleaning service last year and the increase in the fleet of waste collection vehicles.
The investment made by the concessionary company amounts to 472,587 euros. The cession of part of the plot from the City Council's Maintenance Service has allowed for the expansion of the necessary space for these new operations.
The renovated facilities, covering over 5,000 square meters, now centralize the supply, electric charging, repair workshop, storage and custody, washing, and general control of the waste collection vehicles and beach cleaning machinery.
The location in an industrial park and its proximity to the beach facilitate vehicle logistics. Currently, around 100 workers utilize these facilities, which will also house street cleaning personnel and machinery until the Cleaning Operations Base is fully completed. The facilities include segregated restrooms and changing rooms, warehouses, a fuel dispenser, a dining area, archives, and offices.
The mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, highlighted that this action improves the urban quality service and is visible to the citizens. The base complements the acquisition of new vehicles, an increase in staff, and new infrastructure such as containers and bins, ensuring the optimal functioning of the service.
García Chamorro stated that the facilities are "much more than a logistics base," as they include workers' changing rooms, a repair workshop for vehicles that break down, and the space for the entire fleet to be inspected and cleaned each night.
Juan Fernando Hernández, the deputy mayor for Urban Quality, detailed that the space will serve as a base for waste collection trucks and machinery, as well as for beach cleaning, and for the daily parking of equipment after their work.
Hernández emphasized the commitment to sustainability in the investment for this base, highlighting the installation of a charging point for electric vehicles, the complete modification of the electrical network and pluvial sanitation, and an aerothermal system for energy saving in the workers' service area.
This base becomes the nerve center for the collection and beach cleaning service, managing approximately 40 units including trucks, vehicles, and machinery. Externally, the perimeter fence has been completely renovated, the current sliding door replaced with a motorized one with an anti-crushing system, a liquid fuel supply station installed, the dirt area paved with asphalt, parking spaces marked, and 24-hour video surveillance implemented.
