Motril has concluded its 2026 Patron Saint Festivities, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, with a very positive assessment regarding participation and normality. According to City Council estimates, over 164,000 people enjoyed the fair, both day and night, and the various scheduled activities.
The Councilor for Youth, Festivals, and Events, Gerardo Romano, described the organization as a success thanks to coordination between municipal departments, which allowed for quality festivities with unprecedented attendance. The program included performances by artists such as Nil Moliner, Pepe y Vizio, Marta Sánchez, 091, Ana Caro, and Salistre, in addition to children's activities and the daytime fair. The fireworks display, moved to Avenida Costa Tropical, was also highlighted as a closing spectacle.
Romano emphasized the improvement of the fairgrounds, which has transformed from an abandoned area into a provincial benchmark thanks to investments in paving and parking. 100% of the available plots and stalls were occupied, demonstrating the good health of this space.
For his part, the Deputy Mayor for Citizen Security, José Peña, very positively assessed the special security device, which proceeded with complete normality. The coordination between the Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, and National Police, along with municipal departments, ensured safe festivities.
A notable aspect was the Buhobús service, reinforced with a new circular line through the neighborhoods. This service transported over 10,500 passengers, fulfilling the objective of making the festivities more accessible and facilitating access to the fairgrounds.
The device also included increased parking capacity, with five available zones, and traffic management that absorbed peak attendance moments, even coordinating with the eclipse device on August 12th. Vehicle access and exit were managed in a staggered and fluid manner, avoiding significant traffic jams.
The Civil Protection Volunteers Group had an average of 14 volunteers daily, carrying out 223 preventive actions, 21 minor medical assists, and 197 informational and preventive assists. The Fire Service handled 92 services, with a permanent standby unit at the fairgrounds. The Local Police also played a crucial role in the city's security during this important period.
