The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, along with the Councilor for Youth, Festivals, and Events, Gerardo Romano, welcomed María Cobos Hidalgo, who will deliver the opening speech for the Patron Saint Festivals. Cobos, a renowned Motril-based actress and singer with a distinguished career, was nominated for Best Leading Actress at the National Musical Theatre Awards.
The opening speech, described as a unique spectacle, will feature musician and DJ Gerard Pelegrín on the piano. Admission will be free until full capacity. The mayor highlighted that having Cobos as speaker is an honor, considering her a "wonderful ambassador for Motril" and an artist who, despite her national success, "has never forgotten Motril".
María Cobos expressed her excitement and gratitude, calling the appointment "the greatest honor" of her career. She stated she has put "all my heart" into an event that will mark the start of the festivities, aiming to live up to the responsibility.
Councilor Gerardo Romano mentioned that choosing Cobos was a clear decision from the outset, given her "enormous artistic and personal qualities" that will captivate attendees.
The Patron Saint Festivals of Motril will officially commence on Friday, August 7th, with the opening speech by María Cobos. That same evening, at 9:30 PM, the festive lighting will be switched on at the Recinto Ferial, initiating over a week of celebratory activities.
The festival program includes free musical performances by artists such as Nil Moliner, Marta Sánchez, and Pepe y Vizio, among others. Detailed information will be available on the Motril City Council website.
