The actions, approved by a resolution from the Secretary of State on March 2, began before Easter, as previously announced. The Provincial Coast Service initiated the bulk of the emergency works to repair the damage primarily caused during January and February.
Pedro Fernández, the Government Delegate in Andalusia, had promised the arrival of these aids to the Costa Tropical by early April, a commitment that has materialized with visible activity from Costas at various points along the coastline. This investment is part of a larger package of 12 million euros approved by the Spanish Government for the recovery of coasts across the entire autonomous community of Andalusia.
The initial interventions focused on the regeneration of El Sotillo beach in Castell de Ferro, followed by work on El Pozuelo beach in Albuñol, considered one of the areas most affected by the storms. In the latter, sand replenishment and restoration of damaged furniture were carried out.
Currently, Almuñécar is also benefiting from these emergency works, with trucks actively regenerating sand in the Cotobro area. These efforts will extend to Fuentepiedra, Caletilla, and Velilla beaches in the coming days. Soon, works will continue in Motril and Salobreña, including Punta del Santo beach in Motril, Torrenueva Costa, and La Charca in Salobreña.
All these beaches will undergo regeneration with sediment contributions and the recovery of damaged equipment, such as the restoration of the final tip of the Playa Granada breakwater and the repositioning of its riprap. Additionally, Polopos will receive emergency actions on La Mamola and Castillo de Baños beaches to recover lost sand.
The main objective of these actions by the Provincial Coast Service is to restore the original condition of the coastal strip before the start of the peak beach season. It is expected that, if the works proceed as planned, the region will be able to enjoy a summer with beaches in perfect condition.
