The Motril City Council has presented the final balance of the beach season, highlighting the conclusion of the special lifeguard and safety operation without any serious incidents. During the summer period, more than 650 interventions and 400 medical assists were recorded.
The Deputy Mayor for Citizen Security, Beaches, and Coastal Development, José Pea, emphasized the extension of the service period and the scope of action for lifeguards, thanks to the increase in watchtowers, surveillance, and material and human resources.
Of the 400 medical assists, 97% were resolved at the beach's own facilities, offering closer attention and avoiding unnecessary transfers. These are complemented by over 140 preventive interventions, focused on informing bathers about risks, nautical lanes, flags, and sea conditions.
Lifeguards also intervened to prevent incidents with motorboats entering swimming zones, ensuring these situations did not escalate into emergencies.
Accessibility was another key focus, with more than 200 assisted swims and 101 reservations. Improvements were made to shaded areas, and resources were adapted to the specific needs of each beach, reinforcing the commitment to more inclusive beaches.
The balance is rounded off by the summer program, which attracted over 20,000 people to a hundred sports, cultural, and leisure activities over two months.
