The agreement, presented by the Infrastructure councilors of Mijas, Juan José Torres, and his counterpart from Fuengirola, José Sánchez, aims to optimize road safety and the quality of life for residents in the border areas between both municipalities.
The agreement has an initial duration of four years, with the possibility of renewal for a similar period, and stems from the good collaboration between the two cities. The objective is to regulate the execution of conservation and repainting work for horizontal signage, including pedestrian crossings, longitudinal lines, and road markings on shared roads.
The specific area of action mentioned in the agreement covers La Unión street, from its intersection with Camino de Coín and Camino de las Cañadas to its junction with the Carretera de Mijas.
The responsibility for carrying out the painting work will alternate annually between both councils. For the year 2026, Fuengirola will be in charge of these tasks. The agreement stipulates that the responsible administration must supply all necessary materials, labor, and provisional signage for the proper development of the work.
Juan José Torres emphasized that the agreement is the result of close collaboration and common goals between the two cities, stating that "the well-being of our neighbors is a priority." For his part, José Sánchez added that "we have tried to reach maintenance agreements for years" and that "with a Mijas government sensitive to this need and proactive, it will become a reality." The first works on La Unión street are scheduled for this coming Sunday.
