The El Viso del Alcor City Council has announced that the autumn and winter courses at the municipal swimming pool will be postponed. This decision stems from the necessity of undertaking a comprehensive renovation of the facility's roof, following a new technical inspection that highlighted the current structure's condition, which does not guarantee safe use in the coming months, particularly given the autumn and winter weather.
The total investment for this upgrade amounts to 340,000 euros, funded by a grant from the Spanish Government, intended to address damage caused by storms last winter. The project includes the installation of a new translucent and retractable roof. This enhancement will enable the pool to operate as an enclosed, safe, and comfortable facility during autumn and winter, and in spring and summer, it can be retracted to restore its open-air character, ensuring year-round usability.
The drafting and definition of the project are currently underway, with approval anticipated in the coming months. Subsequently, the tendering process for the works will commence, aiming for the roof replacement to begin in early 2027. The execution is estimated to take between two and three months, meaning the pool could be operational again during the second quarter of 2027.
The council acknowledges the significant inconvenience this situation causes to families and regular users. Therefore, the priority is to implement a definitive solution to resolve the recurring issues with the current roof. While these procedures advance, the Municipal Sports Service will directly contact registered individuals to provide updates on course status, available alternatives, and the management of any fees paid.
