The Mijas City Council has emphasized the role of golf tourism in boosting activity during the autumn and winter months. Tourism Councilor Francisco Jerez held a meeting with representatives of the municipality's beach bars, headed by the president of the Association of Mijas Beach Bars, Carlos Morales, to analyze the summer season's results and the prospects for the coming months.
The meeting, held at the Royal Beach beach bar in Calahonda, is part of the council's regular contacts with various tourism sectors. Jerez stressed the importance of listening to entrepreneurs to understand the establishments' situation and tailor promotional actions to the specific characteristics of each coastal area.
For his part, Carlos Morales highlighted the significance of domestic tourism in August and the need to adapt to evolving demand and rising costs. He noted that the arrival of golf enthusiasts presents an opportunity to maintain hospitality activity beyond the peak summer season.
Jerez pointed out that international promotion efforts targeting the golf segment, while not yielding immediate results, are beginning to bear fruit, with business owners reporting an increased presence of golfers. This type of visitor not only generates activity in hotels and restaurants but also supports other services like taxis.
The president of the beach bars positively assessed the spending capacity and longer stays of golf tourists, considering it an interesting prospect for Mijas. Jerez recalled that a municipal objective is to foster year-round tourism, a path already being followed by some establishments that extend their operations until late November or even throughout the winter.
Finally, the importance of maintaining fluid communication between the Tourism Department and industry professionals was emphasized to address challenges and needs, adapting initiatives to the reality of each establishment and area within the municipality.
