The October plenary session of the Mijas City Council today validated a modification to the IBI ordinance, establishing a 90% bonus for the municipality's large families. This measure, representing the maximum legal allowance, will be indefinite and reduces the tax to 10% of its normal rate.
The new ordinance also stipulates that each child with a recognized disability of 33% or higher will count as two for the purpose of large family status, easing access to the bonus for households with greater expenses. Mayor Ana Mata explained that a family with an annual IBI of 300 euros will now pay only 30 euros, down from 150 euros with the previous 50% bonus.
Furthermore, a 50% IBI bonus will be granted to residents who install systems for thermal or electrical energy utilization from solar or ambient energy (aerothermal systems). This bonus will be valid for a maximum of three years.
Regarding social housing (VPO), the 50% bonus for the three years following definitive qualification is maintained. For subsequent periods, it will be recognized independently each year, removing the maximum income limit and the requirement to have previously enjoyed the bonus. The benefit can be requested as long as the property remains qualified as social housing, is the primary residence, and the owner is up-to-date with municipal tax payments.
Finally, the regulation of exemptions for non-profit entities' properties has been updated, in accordance with Law 49/2002, to facilitate understanding and application of this legally provided tax benefit.
