The Torremolinos City Council has initiated the tender process for the first phase of the comprehensive renovation of Europa Street, located in the El Calvario neighborhood, with a base budget of 515,326.60 euros and an execution period of four months.

This action, co-financed by the Diputación de Málaga, will focus on the section between Isabel Manoja Avenue and Loma del Colegial Street. The main objective is to enhance accessibility, safety, and the environmental quality of the area, which currently features aging urban infrastructure.
The project includes the renovation of the roadway and pavements, as well as the modernization of existing underground utility lines. Additionally, the street will be adapted to current accessibility regulations, ensuring a more comfortable and safe passage for pedestrians.
Key interventions include narrowing the roadway to widen sidewalks, incorporating trees and landscaping, replacing public lighting with more efficient systems, and installing new urban furniture. Partial renovation of water supply and sanitation networks is also planned, along with the implementation of a separate stormwater network featuring sustainable drainage systems.
Europa Street is a crucial artery in the urban core of Torremolinos, serving as an access route to the center from Libertad Avenue. The street, with a traffic lane limited to 30 km/h, is surrounded by shops, banks, the City Council, and a health center, in addition to public transport bus stops and multi-family residential buildings.
The proposed design will maintain a central three-meter-wide lane and wide sidewalks on both sides, eliminating parking spaces. Bus passage will be preserved, with the roadway at a different level from the sidewalk, separated by a granite curb. At the intersection with Isabel Manoja Avenue, a new landscaped area with urban furniture and a staircase will be created to address the slope.
The renovation is completed with the installation of an independent network for rainwater collection, which will be stored in an underground tank of 20.8 m³ for reuse in irrigation. Existing ficus and palm trees will be transplanted and replaced with new tree and shrub species, while the line of orange trees on the north sidewalk will be maintained. A new irrigation network, benches, waste bins, and bicycle parking will also be installed.
