The investigation, conducted by the Department of Environment and Health alongside the Local Police, led to the identification of the company that discarded various furniture, household items, clothing, textiles, and moving debris into the stream. According to the City Council, the waste was transported using a large van-type vehicle.
Police inquiries, which included the green patrol unit, revealed that the identified company specializes in scrap metal removal and was operating from a property in the neighboring municipality of Benalmádena.
The case has been forwarded to the Sanctioning Authority to initiate infringement proceedings. This uncontrolled dumping of domestic waste in a municipal public forest is considered a serious offense under Law 7/2022, of April 8, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy. The estimated financial penalty could reach 10,000 euros.
“"Our city and its natural environment are a heritage that we must protect. We will not allow the irresponsibility of a few to put it at risk."
The mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, had previously denounced the incident on her social media profiles and announced the commencement of investigations. Following the clarification of the facts, she expressed her satisfaction and congratulated the officers for their swift and effective work.
