Filmmaker Max Walker-Silverman presents his second feature film, Rebuilding, a work that addresses loss and the possibility of putting oneself back together after disaster. The plot centers on a young cowboy, played by Josh O’Connor, whose life is turned upside down after losing his ranch in a forest fire, his land, and his relationship with his young daughter.
The narrative extends to other individuals who, like the protagonist, have been forced to live in a caravan camp with their meager possessions. Walker-Silverman portrays the story of these lands and their people with profound humanity, acknowledging the pain but always leaving room for second chances.
The film is characterized by being restrained yet intimate, sober yet warm, melancholic yet luminous. Walker-Silverman's ability to balance sadness with hope, symbolized by details like the luminous stickers on the protagonist's caravan, gives this modern western its strength. The director demonstrates a remarkable skill in capturing the vulnerability of his characters, with a standout performance from Josh O’Connor, and in filming the landscape as an extension of the inhabitants' identities.
Rebuilding, which also features Lily LaTorre, Meghann Fahy, Amy Madigan, and Kali Reis in its cast, is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026.
