“"We are not seeking revenge. What we want is to know the whole truth about what happened and for justice to be done. Haitam was a father, a brother, and a person loved by his entire family. He deserves for his death to be investigated to the end."

The political party Podemos has submitted a Non-Legislative Proposal (PNL) to the Congress of Deputies requesting a thorough investigation into the death of Haitam, which occurred on December 7, 2025, in Torremolinos (Málaga) during an intervention by the National Police.
The parliamentary initiative aims to ensure an independent inquiry that examines all evidence, hears from witnesses and those involved, and clarifies the facts, based on images that revealed the seriousness of the police action. The proposal also calls for promoting support measures for the families of individuals who die during police interventions and for reviewing protocols on the use of Taser devices and other coercive means.
According to Podemos's statement, existing recordings suggest police conduct that requires a deep investigation. It is noted that Haitam was subdued by several officers, received multiple electric shocks from Tasers, and suffered immobilization maneuvers which, according to a forensic report provided by the family, may have contributed to severe cardiorespiratory failure.
Nico Sguiglia, a Podemos councilor in Málaga, highlighted the family's helplessness and the need for a rigorous investigation in a democracy. Podemos's Secretary General, Ione Belarra, described the images of the police action as "extremely serious" and emphasized Congress's responsibility to promote measures to uncover the truth and strengthen controls over the use of force, stating that "impunity can never be an option."
Representing the family, Naser Mejri, Haitam's brother, thanked them for their support and called for justice, emphasizing the need for institutions to listen and clarify the facts so that no other family has to endure a similar situation. Podemos reiterated that clarifying the facts is a democratic obligation and it is essential to guarantee effective control and accountability mechanisms for any police action that may violate human rights.
