The Mijas Local Police have introduced their Cycling Unit, a team of officers who will patrol the Coastal Path and beaches daily to bolster security throughout the summer.
The Mijas City Council has launched the Local Police Cycling Unit, a security reinforcement aimed at the Coastal Path and the municipality's main beach areas. This special unit will operate during the months of highest tourist influx to ensure the peace of mind of both residents and visitors.
The cycling officers will conduct daily patrols to carry out preventive tasks, monitor compliance with municipal ordinances, and control activities that could disrupt coexistence in these public spaces. The initiative seeks to provide a more accessible and effective response in high-traffic areas.
“
"The presence of officers on the ground has a significant preventive effect and helps residents and visitors enjoy our coastline with greater security guarantees."
Councillor for Citizen Security, Juan Carlos Cuevas, highlighted the unit's importance for a more accessible and effective response, emphasizing its preventive impact. He noted that this measure is part of the City Council's reinforcement of resources for the summer season, reaffirming the commitment to equipping the Local Police with the necessary tools.
“
"In summer, the number of people on the coastline increases significantly, not only due to tourism but also the use and enjoyment of the beaches by the locals themselves, making it necessary for us to be more vigilant for any incidents with this patrol."
The Mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, positively assessed the unit, highlighting its immediate response capability for emergencies, especially given the increased number of people on the coastline during summer, both from tourism and local use.
“
"The Cycling Unit provides us with a great capacity for prevention and immediate response to any incident on the coastline. Furthermore, it plays a fundamental role in controlling illegal street vending, unauthorized massages, and compliance with municipal ordinances."
For his part, Chief Superintendent of the Local Police, Juan Manuel Rosas, stated that the cycling unit enhances prevention and immediate response on the coastline, while also being crucial in controlling illegal street vending and unauthorized massages.
This Cycling Unit will complement other municipal devices active during the summer, contributing to maintaining the quality of Mijas' beaches.
