The municipality of Mijas has welcomed over 7,500 students at the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. The City Council has allocated 900,000 euros to maintenance, conservation, and repair work in the eleven infant and primary education centers, carried out during the summer period.
The number of students has increased by approximately 200 compared to the previous year. The academic day began normally, with staggered entries starting from 9:00 AM.
The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, visited the CEIP Virgen de la Peña in Las Lagunas, highlighting the City Council's continuous effort in conditioning the centers, which intensifies in summer with the most significant actions.
The interventions included painting and conditioning of interiors (classrooms, hallways, offices) and exteriors (patios, walls), as well as plumbing repairs and pruning within the school grounds.
Awnings have been installed in sports seating areas and children's zones have been adapted. Additionally, thorough cleaning of patios and outdoor areas was carried out with specialized machinery, disinfection of glass surfaces and coatings, and cleaning of classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
The municipal investment covers personnel, materials, and service contracts, as reported by the mayor alongside the Councilor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres.
