Since the presence of these insects was detected in the Miramar area on July 24, the Health Department has intensified operations across the municipality. Efforts include regular fumigation in parks, storm drains, and wetland areas, alongside constant monitoring of traps installed at strategic points such as the Mijas Hippodrome surroundings.
The latest technical inspection, conducted in collaboration with the General Directorate of Public Health, marks the end of this weekly control cycle. The alert period, established by the regional administration, will officially conclude this Friday, August 21. Until that date, the local government will continue to execute the established disinfection protocol.
Measures taken during this period include the temporary closure of parks such as Andalucía, El Abuelo, and 3 de Abril to facilitate fumigation, as well as thorough cleaning of storm drains within a one-kilometer radius. Additionally, the council has collaborated with the Association of Property Administrators and private companies to extend preventive recommendations to homeowners' associations and golf courses.
The Health Department has confirmed that, to date, no human cases of the virus have been recorded within the municipality. Looking ahead, the City Council plans to acquire new traps using its own funds to expand the sampling network and improve response capabilities against potential risks.
