The Mijas council is implementing improvements in the Gran Parque to enhance the comfort and enjoyment of its facilities. Up to 6,000 square meters of awnings are being installed to provide shade for children's play areas, plazas, the central boulevard, and the amphitheater. Installation has already begun in the children's play zones and will continue along the main promenade, where supports have been erected.
This enhancement, not originally part of the project, is included in the maintenance contract for green areas and cleaning of the facility. The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, visited the area to oversee the work. This contract has an annual budget of 1.95 million euros and is awarded to the joint venture (UTE) formed by Inditec and Ituval.
Additionally, two of the six permanent restroom modules for the Gran Parque de Mijas have been installed. These restrooms feature universal accessibility, as reported by the mayor after her visit with the delegate councilor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez.
Ana Mata emphasized that the park continues its progressive equipping with basic improvements such as shade and restrooms, as well as parking and plant species with lower water demand. She noted that these needs were not initially included but, thanks to the current administration's commitment, the three contracts for the Gran Parque (maintenance, conservation and equipment, and security) are now active and in execution.
The Gran Parque de Mijas, located in Las Lagunas, covers an area of 270,000 square meters, making it the largest urban park in Andalusia. It houses over 2,900 trees and 20,000 plants. Its facilities include sports courts, five children's play areas, a skate park, a splash park, a dog park, an amphitheater with a capacity for 1,500 people, and a central lake.
