The municipality of Mijas is preparing to enjoy the seventh art under the stars with the new edition of the Summer Cinema. Organized by the Youth Department, the series will take place during July and August, with screenings every Wednesday starting at 10:00 PM.
The councilor responsible, Melisa Ceballos, highlighted that the initiative aims to offer "safe, dynamic, and accessible summer leisure" for residents and visitors, transforming the municipality into "a large screen under the stars" with a "completely free" and "healthy" entertainment option.
This year's lineup features a selection of cinematic hits from genres such as action, animation, and comedy. Screenings will begin on July 8 with ‘Jurassic World’ at Torreón de La Cala beach. This will be followed by ‘Minecraft’ on July 15 at Virgen de la Peña square in Mijas Pueblo, and ‘Superman’ on July 29 at María Zambrano park in Las Lagunas.
In August, the program continues on the 5th with ‘Transformer One’ at Torreón de La Cala beach. On August 12, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ will be screened at Virgen de la Peña square, and on August 19, the series will conclude with ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ at Plaza de la Candelaria in Las Lagunas.
As these are screenings in public spaces with free access until full capacity is reached, the organization advises attendees to arrive in advance to secure a good spot.
Ceballos concluded by stating that the Summer Cinema not only provides a healthy and quality leisure alternative for young people and families but also "contributes to revitalizing public spaces and boosting local commerce and hospitality".
