The coastal town ranked first in Andalusia for maximum temperatures and third nationally, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) up to 5:00 PM. Only the Valencian towns of Xàtiva (38.2 degrees) and Carcaixent (37.5 degrees) recorded higher values.
The day was marked by the terral phenomenon and a yellow alert issued by Aemet in the Costa del Sol and the Valle del Guadalhorce, where maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees were expected, a forecast that was ultimately exceeded in some parts of the western coast.
Other municipalities in Malaga also experienced intense heat. Álora reached 34.9 degrees and Manilva 34.3, placing them among the Andalusian towns with the highest values of the day. These readings reflect an unusually strong heat episode for early June.
In the rest of Andalusia, after Estepona, temperatures close to 35 degrees were notable in Álora and at the Seville Airport observatory. High readings were also recorded in Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Manilva.
This extreme heat episode comes just two days after another temperature peak that approached 40 degrees in some parts of the province, confirming a particularly warm start to June in Malaga.
A drop in temperatures is expected from this Friday due to the arrival of easterly winds. In the capital, maximums could fall from the current 36 degrees to around 30 over the weekend. However, meteorological models suggest this respite may be temporary, with a new rise predicted for next week.
