The flames originated inside one home and quickly spread to affect three other apartments, forcing the evacuation of two floors of the building. The rapid intervention of the Benalmádena Firefighters, supported by personnel from Torremolinos, Local Police, and health services, could not prevent the tragedy.
Among the injured is the mother of the deceased minors, who was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Additionally, a firefighter and several police officers required medical attention for smoke inhalation during the firefighting efforts.

Municipal sources confirmed that the fire started around five in the morning and that the flames were already very advanced upon the arrival of emergency services.
