During the plenary session, the Casares Town Council unanimously approved a motion urging the Junta de Andalucía to construct a second Secondary Education institute. This new center would be crucial to meet the growing demand from students in Casares, Manilva, and Sabinillas, towns located in the south of Málaga province.
The need for a new institute arises from the current situation at IES Las Viñas, the reference center in the area, which operates with double the number of students it was designed for. This overload has led to the conversion of common spaces such as laboratories, libraries, and cafeterias into classrooms, affecting educational quality and teaching staff working conditions.
Furthermore, the plenary approved a second motion, presented by the PMP group, to demand improvement, maintenance, and safety works at IES Hozgarganta in Jimena de la Frontera. This institute is used by Baccalaureate students from the district of Secadero and has suffered the closure of several facilities due to the deterioration of its premises from years of lack of maintenance.
A third motion, elevated to institutional status, addressed Secadero's connectivity problem. It requested the Junta de Andalucía to improve the A-2102 road and enable an emergency exit connecting the locality to the AP-7 motorway. This proposal, initially from the PMP group, gained urgency after recent floods highlighted the district's road isolation.
The session also included the swearing-in of a new councilor, who joins the group of unattached councilors. Additionally, an ordinance regulating funeral services, the first Equality Plan for Women and Men of the Casares Town Council, and a new local emergency action plan for tsunami situations were approved.
