The Casares Town Hall has approved a modification to the waste tax in a plenary session to lessen the economic impact on families in the municipality, introducing new exemptions and bonuses.

The municipal plenary session in Casares has given the green light to a modification of the Fiscal Ordinance regulating the fee for the collection, transport, and treatment of municipal waste. The primary objective is to reduce the financial burden on residents, thereby fulfilling a commitment made by the governing team.
Among the highlighted improvements, over 1,000 properties with a cadastral value below 10,000 euros, as well as garages, storage rooms, and other rural buildings, will be exempt from paying this tax. The ordinance expands its valuation system from five to nine tiers, making it more progressive and adjusting contributions based on cadastral value and generated waste.
The minimum fee is reduced from 75 to 45 euros, and the intermediate fee to 60 euros, which will represent significant savings for more than 1,600 families. The modification also includes new bonuses, such as a 31.4% reduction for closed businesses and for unoccupied or dilapidated properties through a responsible declaration.
Retirees and low-income families will be able to apply for tax exemption. Additionally, a discount will be offered on the bill to those who use the 'Punto Limpio' (Civic Amenity Site) at least three times a year. Opposition groups, PMP Casares and Partido Popular, positively assessed the changes, although the PP suggested greater incentives for recycling.
Mayor Juan Luis Villalón described the ordinance as "dynamic," subject to future adaptations with the implementation of new phases in waste collection, such as the brown bin, which is expected to reduce management costs and improve the tax rate.
In the same plenary session, the application for the Day of Andalusia celebration in Casares to be declared an ‘Acontecimiento de Interés Turístico de Andalucía’ (Event of Andalusian Tourist Interest) was approved. The Municipal Civic Amenity Site Regulation Ordinance and two budget modifications for scholarships and subsidies were also approved.
The session concluded with an institutional congratulation for the Casares Fair, emphasizing its traditional character and the importance of family and social gatherings. The mayor congratulated residents, municipal workers, and collaborating companies.
