The incident took place at a BBVA bank branch in La Noria, La Cala de Mijas. The robbers arrived on a motorcycle, hooded and wearing reflective jackets, bursting into the establishment and threatening employees with a weapon.
Once inside, they demanded that the workers enter the safe's code. However, the safe's security delay mechanism prevented its immediate opening. At that moment, customers present in the office began screaming, which caused panic among the assailants.
The 112 Andalucia Emergency Service received the first alert at 8:15 am.
Fearing that the police would arrive while they waited for the safe to open, the robbers decided to flee empty-handed on their motorcycle, heading towards Marbella. One of the bystanders had to be treated by paramedics for an anxiety attack.
Officers from the Guardia Civil have launched an investigation to clarify what happened and identify those responsible for this attempted robbery.
