The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, through its Environmental Classroom located at the Costa del Sol Environmental Complex and managed by Urbaser, has initiated the reservation period for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year. This initiative is aimed at all educational centers within the eleven municipalities that form the Mancomunidad.
The visits are primarily designed for students in Primary Education (from 3rd grade onwards) and Secondary Education. However, the program also extends to other groups interested in gaining firsthand knowledge of how waste generated in the Costa del Sol is managed. Participation in these activities is entirely free of charge.
Educational institutions wishing to participate can make their reservations and check the available calendar on the official website www.costadelsol.eco. There, they will find all the necessary information to complete the registration process.
Félix Romero, president of the Mancomunidad, has highlighted the significance of the Environmental Classroom as "a fundamental tool for bringing schoolchildren closer to the reality of waste management and the importance of adopting responsible sustainability habits".
Romero added that the objective is for students to understand the complete journey of waste, from its disposal in containers to its treatment at the Environmental Complex, thereby fostering greater environmental awareness for an increasingly sustainable Costa del Sol. He encouraged all centers to take advantage of this "very enriching educational experience".
Since the beginning of its new phase, the Environmental Classroom has received a notable response, attracting nearly 3,000 people. It has established itself as a benchmark for environmental education and citizen awareness in the region.
The visits, with a maximum capacity of 40 people and an approximate duration of two hours, detail the integral waste management cycle, the complex's facilities, and the importance of reduction, reuse, and recycling. In addition to schools, the initiative is open to associations, universities, senior centers, and other environment-related entities.
