The Associations of Mothers and Fathers of Students (AMPA) from Manilva and Casares have called a demonstration in Málaga for next Wednesday, April 22, demanding the construction of a new institute and the committed investment for repairs at IES Las Viñas.
The mobilization, which will start at 10:00 AM at the Málaga Provincial Council and continue at 12:30 PM at the Territorial Delegation of Education of the Junta de Andalucía, aims to pressure authorities regarding the overcrowding and deterioration of educational facilities in the area.
“
"We ask that they listen to us for once regarding the new institute."
Ana Domínguez, president of the Santa Ana AMPA of IES Las Viñas in Manilva, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that the center houses about 1,400 students, double its original capacity of 700. This overcrowding has forced the conversion of spaces such as the cafeteria, chemistry lab, staff room, and library into classrooms, in addition to using four prefabricated classrooms for almost two decades.
The educational community has been demanding a new institute for over eight years. The situation worsened with the storms in January and February, which caused significant damage to IES Las Viñas, including broken skylights, leaks, dampness in electrical installations, and a fallen ceiling section. The AMPA also demand the execution of a 400,000 euro investment for repairs, a figure that, according to Domínguez, the Junta has halved.
In response to the demands, the Andalusian Public Agency for Education of the Junta de Andalucía has issued a resolution, dated April 13, detailing an investment of 220,000 euros for IES Las Viñas, allocated for roof waterproofing, skylights, and other repairs. The project is in the drafting phase, and once approved, the works will be put out to tender. Additionally, the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training has allocated 29,942.45 euros for electrical and sanitary adaptations, and 31,759.73 euros for minor works, plus another 60,000 euros for improving thermal comfort, totaling 341,702.18 euros over the last two academic years.
We expected it, because after so much time and so many politicians, I don't believe in any of them. After eight years with this issue, we are in the same situation, and until we see the works, the repairs, or something signed, we won't believe it.
