The agreement will enable the development and preclinical validation of drugs targeting the molecular target MOL-OLIGO. The event was attended by the president of the provincial institution, Salvador Fuentes; the manager of FIBICO and IMIBIC, Álvaro Granados; the principal investigator of the project, Raúl Miguel Luque; Juan Solivera, head of the Clinical Management Unit of Neurosurgery at the Hospital Reina Sofía, and Manuel Menéndez and Rocío Hidalgo, members of the ASTUCE Brain Tumor Association.
Salvador Fuentes highlighted the project's health relevance, stating that this collaboration represents a commitment to research and talent, as well as an investment in health and development for the province. He emphasized that strengthening the research center attracts funding, generates qualified employment, and fosters technological transfer and business development, diversifying Cordoba's economy.
The president of the Provincial Council explained that the objective is to design a compound capable of blocking the molecular target MOL-OLOGO, identified by the IMIBIC research team, to slow tumor growth. This will involve laboratory tests, studies with cell cultures, patient samples, organoids, and experimental models in a preclinical research phase.
Álvaro Granados, manager of FIBICO, expressed gratitude for the institutional support from the Provincial Council, which values research as a fundamental pillar of Cordoba's social and economic development. He stressed the importance of collaboration between institutions and the private sector to advance healthcare innovation.
Raúl Miguel Luque, principal investigator, detailed that the agreement will allow for the design of a drug for clinical trials in patients with oligodendroglioma, a tumor pathology for which there is currently no curative therapy, which will undoubtedly have a significant impact on society.
