The Cabildo Catedral de Córdoba has launched an initiative to open seven historic temples, built after the city's conquest in 1236 by Ferdinand III, at night. The goal is to adapt the cultural and heritage offerings to the summer climate and attract both residents and visitors.
The churches of the Fernandine Route will be accessible from Thursday to Saturday between 9:00 PM and midnight. During July and August, the usual hours will be modified to include these night visits. From Monday to Wednesday, the temples will be open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On Thursdays and Fridays, a split schedule will be offered, with openings from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 9:00 PM to midnight. On Saturdays, visits will be exclusively at night, from 9:00 PM to midnight.
The temples participating in this summer opening are Santa Marina, San Lorenzo, the church of the Oath of San Rafael, San Francisco, San Basilio, San Pedro, and San Andrés.
Joaquín Alberto Nieva, dean of the Cabildo Catedral de Córdoba, highlighted that the decision responds to the Cabildo's commitment to collaborate with the city and make its heritage resources available to enrich Córdoba's cultural and tourist offerings. He noted that the initiative strengthens tourist activity during a challenging period and provides an attractive, accessible alternative with great historical and spiritual value.
The Route of the Fernandine Churches is an initiative by the Cabildo to expand Córdoba's tourist offerings beyond the immediate vicinity of the Mezquita-Cathedral. This project aims to showcase temples of immense historical, artistic, and religious value, extending the reach of visits and promoting economic and social activity in neighborhoods further from the city's main monumental axis.
The Cabildo reaffirms its commitment to offering the best possible experience and utilizing its heritage resources for the city's cultural, tourist, and economic promotion, showcasing 'another Córdoba' – one of neighborhoods, living history, and religious heritage.
