The provincial leadership of the PSOE issued a statement asserting that the wife of the former councilman, who was detained last Holy Thursday, is among the women negatively impacted by delays in mammography results across the autonomous community.
The events leading to the arrest occurred during an institutional visit by the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, to Cabra for Holy Week activities. According to security sources, the man was apprehended for disobedience and resisting authority after allegedly accosting and threatening the president, subsequently ignoring officers' instructions to leave the area.
Despite a request from the Partido Popular for the immediate expulsion of the member, the PSOE of Córdoba has declined to take disciplinary action. The party argued that no internal regulations exist to suspend membership for an alleged offense of contempt of authority.
The detainee is going through “very difficult times” due to his wife's illness, noting that the negligence in the screening program was the “trigger” for his public reaction.
The party stated that the member intends to offer personal explanations about the incident when he deems it appropriate, and has reaffirmed its support for his challenging family situation.
Finally, the PSOE concluded its statement by denouncing the Junta de Andalucía's “negligence” in a crisis that, according to their data, affects over 4,000 Andalusian women due to failures and delays in diagnostic tests. Consequently, they have urged Moreno Bonilla's Government to issue a public apology and establish an ex officio compensation procedure for patients who have developed injuries or cancer due to administrative inefficiency.
