Antonio Hurtado, spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Córdoba City Council, has expressed concern over the current state of the Municipal Citizen Service, describing it as "desperate and disastrous." The criticism focuses on the high number of unresolved census registration applications in the capital, which have risen from 9,700 in November 2024 to 13,200 currently.
During an appearance prior to the Plenary Session, Hurtado presented a motion for the transformation of this service, despite the recent implementation of a new IT platform that cost the municipal coffers 10 million euros. The socialist councilor stressed that, far from improving, the problem has worsened, with a 36% increase in pending applications in just 18 months.
“"In a year and a half, pending applications have increased by 36%, meaning the problem has not only not been fixed but is getting worse."
The motion proposed by the Socialist Group seeks concrete solutions, such as increasing the number of information and processing points in municipal district offices. Additionally, it requests priority in-person attention for individuals over 65 years old and those with mobility issues, as well as the streamlining of bureaucratic procedures between the registration, statistics, and requirements departments.
Hurtado emphasized that the slowness of procedures is particularly critical in the current context of immigrant regularization, which adds an extra burden to the system, also affecting processes such as student enrollment and applications for the Minimum Vital Income (IMV).
