Positive Tourism Outlook for Córdoba's May Festival with Improved Forecasts

The city's tourism sector anticipates an increase in results, driven by international tourism and improved transport connections.

The tourism sector in Córdoba is optimistic about the May Festival in 2026, with expectations of exceeding last year's results thanks to the boost from international tourism and the recovery of high-speed rail with Málaga.

Key players in Córdoba's tourism sector agree that forecasts for the May Festival, which includes the Feria, the Patios, and the Cruces, are positive and could even surpass last year's figures. This favorable outlook is supported by the imminent recovery of the high-speed connection with Málaga and the pleasant spring weather, despite inflation and rising operating costs.
A tourism analysis expert from the University of Córdoba noted that prospects are "quite good" for the May Festival, highlighting a significant recovery compared to February and March, which were affected by climatic phenomena and railway issues. International tourism is expected to be the main driver of this recovery, positioning Spain, and Córdoba in particular, as a refuge destination in the Mediterranean.

"The recovery will be primarily driven by international tourism, as Spain, and specifically Córdoba, are becoming a refuge destination in the Mediterranean."

However, domestic tourism shows more cautious behavior due to the impact of inflation, which has increased the importance of last-minute bookings. Although hospitality and accommodation prices have risen, the economic impact of events like the Patios is estimated to exceed the 35 million euros recorded in the previous edition, driven by the greater purchasing power of international tourists.
From the hoteliers' association, a spokesperson expressed optimism, especially due to the "pull" of international tourism, which is expected to perform better than domestic tourism. The goal for the Feria is, at minimum, to match last year's figures. Nevertheless, two key factors are highlighted: high temperatures, which could deter visitors, and the growing trend of last-minute bookings.

"The goal is to at least repeat last year's figures, but we are monitoring the temperature due to the heat."

On the other hand, the association of lodging entrepreneurs in Córdoba maintains a more moderate view. While acknowledging good booking levels for weekends, especially Saturdays, weekdays still show "weak" occupancy. Overall occupancy for the Patios is slightly above 60 percent, far from the 90 percent expected for peak days, and a price reduction of between 10 and 15 percent has been observed to attract more visitors.
Institutions, through a delegate from the Junta's Tourism, Culture and Sport department and a Tourism councilor, have positively assessed the forecasts, highlighting the strength of Córdoba's tourism and cultural offerings. They noted that campaigns targeting national tourism, promoted by the Junta, the Diputación, and the City Council, aim to maintain 2026 expectations, despite concerns about current rail connectivity.
