The Special Operations Unit of the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPEIS) from the Córdoba City Council conducted thermal measurements on Saturday to assess the effectiveness of the new shade structures installed at the Feria de Nuestra Señora de La Salud.
Results from thermal cameras taken at 3:40 PM showed that while surfaces directly exposed to the sun reached 50 degrees Celsius, areas protected by the awnings registered 32 degrees, a difference of over 15 ºC. When measured directly on the awning fabric itself, temperatures dropped to 27 degrees, widening the gap with sunlit areas to 23 ºC.
A key novelty for this year's Fair is the installation of nearly 7,000 square meters of awnings across the main streets of the fairgrounds. This initiative, promoted by the City Council, aims to combat high temperatures and enhance the comfort of both visitors and workers.
This measure complements the recent planting of 184 trees in El Arenal, which will create new permanent shaded areas in the future and contribute to improving the city's air quality year-round.
“"The measurements taken by the Firefighters highlight the real impact of the new shading infrastructures, especially on a weekend marked by high temperatures, which have far exceeded 35 degrees."
Julián Urbano, Delegate of Festivals and Traditions, emphasized the impact of the new shading structures, particularly given temperatures exceeding 35 degrees. He highlighted that the action represents a "leap in quality" for the Fair, responding to public demand, and reiterated the importance of staying hydrated and utilizing shaded areas.
