Mutual understanding and the protection of minors continue to gain ground following the breakdown of de facto unions and non-marital relationships in the province of Cordoba. Data from the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) for the first quarter of 2026 reflects a significant shift in child custody regulation processes, moving away from judicial conflict.
Whereas in the first three months of 2025, a hostile judicial route was the norm for resolving custody of non-marital children (126 cases versus only 66 agreements), the start of 2026 has completely reversed this trend. Consensual agreements between unmarried parents have increased by 69.70% in the province, reaching 112 procedures.
In contrast to this sharp decline in Cordoba, national custody agreements for unmarried couples remain stagnant, with a minimal decrease of 0.27% (from 5,893 to 5,877 cases). Concurrently, contentious lawsuits (non-consensual) concerning children from these unions have halved, dropping by 49.21% to just 64 litigations.
