The closing concert, titled 'Anhelos de libertad' (Longings for Freedom), featured a repertoire focused on the late-romantic maturity of Brahms and Sibelius, united by the key of D major and an organic motivic development. The result was a success that left a sense of fulfillment.
The first half was dedicated to the Concerto for Violin by Johannes Brahms. Cuban-Jamaican soloist Ellinor D'Melon, the season's principal guest artist, displayed truly overwhelming virtuosity. Her cadenza in the Allegro non troppo and the emotional depth of the Adagio, which became a special moment of the evening, were particularly noteworthy. A minor domestic incident, where the soloist had to readjust her hair, humanized the stage and prompted a gesture of orchestral complicity.
After the Brahms concerto, D'Melon offered an encore: a rendition of 'La cucaracha' as a duet with orchestra violinist Evgen Syrkin, which elicited laughter and applause from the audience.
In the second half, conductor Salvador Vázquez thanked the audience for their support before performing Jean Sibelius's Second Symphony. Vázquez's interpretation and that of the Orquesta de Córdoba were described as impeccable, maintaining dramatic tension despite the density of the second movement.
The apotheotic finale of the symphony unleashed a storm of bravos and prolonged applause, with the musicians stamping their feet in a traditional collective gesture of jubilation. This golden finale provided an undeniable conclusion to a great musical season.
