The month of July, considered the hottest of the year, has ended in Córdoba with high temperature records, although not as severe as in previous years. There have been heatwaves and torrid days, but also days with nocturnal lows that allowed for greater rest, as they remained below 20 degrees on many days.
These records are more moderate compared to those of 2025 and 2024. July has shared with the previous year a trend towards moderation as the calendar progressed, despite some fluctuations, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In Córdoba, temperatures exceeded 40 degrees on a total of 14 days. The highest recorded so far has been 42.7 degrees on July 5th. The days when the mercury surpassed 42 degrees were only 5 and were concentrated at the beginning and end of the month. This past Friday's maximum was 42 degrees, placing the average of the highest temperatures at 37.6 degrees, two tenths less than last year. The Aemet considers this average high, as the norm for the season is around 36.9 degrees.
The heat manifested in waves, some starting in June and early July. Córdoba experienced ten consecutive days with maximums above 40 degrees between June 28th and July 8th. However, there were also days when the thermometer did not exceed 36 degrees, such as between July 10th and 13th, during a period of more relieved days. In 2025, twenty consecutive days were recorded above 40 degrees. From the 20th, and especially from the 28th of July, the warmer days returned.
The month has oscillated between extremes, offering relief to many Cordobans by not having to endure too many tropical nights, those in which the temperature does not drop below 20 degrees. In total, 7 tropical nights were recorded, although some came close to 19.8 degrees. There were also many nights with lows of 15, 16, and 17 degrees, which facilitated rest.
The average minimum temperatures were close to 19 degrees, three tenths less than the previous year. The early morning of July 21st to 22nd recorded the highest minimum with 22.4 degrees. The average maximum temperatures reached 37.6 degrees, exceeding the norm for the season. The overall average temperature in July was 28.94 degrees, also above average, although far from the record of 30.7 degrees in 2020.
August is expected to present slightly lower records from its midpoint onwards, but it will begin with high temperatures. For this Saturday, the Aemet forecasts maximums around 43 degrees and maintains the orange alert for Córdoba and the Guadalquivir Valley. The situation could change from next week.
