The latest data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) reveals that between January and April, 2,564 housing mortgages were signed in the province, marking a 15.4% increase compared to the same period last year, when 2,221 operations were recorded. This translates to an additional 343 operations.
The total volume of loans granted for these transactions has also shown an upward trend, with an 18.5% increase. Banks and savings institutions provided financing exceeding 295 million euros, surpassing the 249 million from the same period in 2025.
A monthly analysis of the statistics indicates that most months have contributed to this growth. February stood out particularly, with a 27.5% increase in credit operations, totaling 607 mortgages compared to 476 the previous year. April also positively impacted the real estate market, albeit with more moderate growth, registering 594 sales, 57 more than in the same month of 2025.
Nationally, the number of mortgages constituted on homes in April rose by 2.3% compared to the same month in 2025, reaching a total of 40,010 loans, the highest figure for an April since 2010. This year-on-year advance, which marks 22 consecutive months of increases, was lower than that recorded in March.
The average interest rate for mortgage loans stood at 2.90% in April, slightly below March's 2.84% and representing the highest value since last November. However, the rate has remained below 3% for 15 consecutive months.
