The exhibition, open until September 20th, highlights the influence of Italian art on Spanish Gothic through over a hundred works. The Cordoban polyptych, measuring 165 x 283 centimeters, underwent restoration due to its conservation status.
Curated by Joan Molina Figueras, the exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, goldsmithing, illuminated manuscripts, and textiles from 31 Spanish and 25 foreign institutions. Artists such as Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Ferrer Bassa share space with Pedro de Córdoba's work, reflecting a sophisticated and original hybrid visual language.
The polyptych, dated in the second half of the 14th century, depicts scenes from the History of Salvation and was conceived for the former Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. Recent studies attribute the work to Pedro de Córdoba, noting its drawing, strong outlines, and gilded backgrounds.
The central panel features the Virgin of the Milk nursing her child, surrounded by donors, Alfonso de Montemayor and Juana Martínez, presented by Saint Ildefonsus and Saint Bernard, alongside angels.
