The province of Cordoba has experienced a positive evolution in its labor market during May. A total of 46,742 people were registered with employment offices, marking a decrease of 780 unemployed individuals compared to April, a 1.64% drop. These figures, published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, reflect a significant improvement.
The year-on-year comparison also shows a clear improvement, with 5,832 fewer unemployed people than a year ago, translating to an 11% reduction in unemployment. This decrease is more pronounced than that recorded in Andalusia as a whole (9.53%) and considerably higher than the national average (5.47%). Of the total unemployed in the province, 29,230 are women and 17,512 are men, indicating a greater incidence of unemployment among the female population. Furthermore, 3,712 job seekers are under 25 years old.
By economic sectors, services account for the largest share of unemployment with 31,345 people, followed by those with no prior employment (4,769), industry (4,061), construction (3,352), and agriculture (3,215). The monthly reduction in unemployment was led by the services sector, which shed 539 unemployed individuals, coinciding with the boost in activity related to the festive month of May. Decreases were also observed in agriculture (-114), construction (-49), industry (-24), and among those with no prior employment (-54).
In parallel, hiring saw a notable advance in May. The province saw 24,642 contracts signed, 1,235 more than in April, representing a monthly increase of 5.28%. Of these, 7,830 were permanent and 16,812 were temporary. However, the comparison with May of the previous year shows practical stability, with only two fewer contracts, a slight decrease of 0.01%.
