A historic astronomical phenomenon, not witnessed in Spain for 114 years, has begun to be visible in Córdoba. Although the solar eclipse will not be total in the province, numerous citizens have gathered at various points to enjoy the unusual sight of the sun being partially obscured.
Locations such as Los Villares, the Niñas viewpoint in the Sierra, and especially Ategua, have become pilgrimage sites. In Ategua, 300 registered individuals were able to enjoy this event in a privileged setting.
In the Cordoban capital, the phenomenon began at 7:41 PM. The moment of maximum obscuration is expected at 8:37 PM, when the Moon will cover approximately 96% of the Sun. The eclipse will conclude at 9:28 PM, with temperatures still expected to be high, around 36 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological forecasts.
The Córdoba City Council has deployed a security detail to ensure the event's tranquility. A total of eleven Local Police patrols and four from Civil Protection are stationed in the areas surrounding the city and the Sierra. Their roles are twofold: to ensure safety given the concentration of attendees and to prevent the risk of forest fires.
