The Diputación de Córdoba hosted the presentation of the 30th Romería of the Divina Pastora in Castil de Campo. This event, scheduled for June 12th and 13th at the Monte y Mirador de la Torre Serbal, has become one of the province's most significant celebrations, merging religious devotion, rural charm, and community gathering.
The delegate for Culture of the provincial institution, Gabriel Duque, accompanied by the president of the ELA of Castil de Campo, Justo Muñoz, and the president of the Neighborhood Association ‘Dos Ejidos’, Antonio Urbano, emphasized the Diputación's strong support for this pilgrimage. Duque invited attendees to experience the festival, highlighting both its deep devotion and the scenic beauty of Castil de Campo, along with the wonderful views from the Divina Pastora hermitage atop the Subbética mountain.
Duque underscored the 'historical and spiritual value' of this tradition, which originally arose as a plea for protection against droughts and deaths affecting the locality. The celebration culminates with the transfer of the virgin's image to a hermitage in the mountains, alongside an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The presidents of the ELA and the Neighborhood Association detailed the program of activities, assuring that Castil de Campo dresses up to celebrate one of its oldest and most cherished traditions, which annually draws numerous residents and visitors around faith, tradition, and community.
The festivities will commence on the afternoon of Friday, June 12th, with the departure of the Divina Pastora image on a decorated float, followed by many faithful on a route marked by a festive atmosphere and deep devotion.
On Saturday, June 13th, pilgrims will gather by the hermitage, at the Mirador de la Torre Serbal, for the traditional pilgrimage mass, one of the most anticipated and emotional moments of the event.
Following the religious service, a day of community gathering will take place, featuring traditional meals, music, and gastronomic tastings, including the paella prepared by local associations. 'An atmosphere of hospitality and brotherhood where residents and visitors share food, conversation, and celebration,' concluded the mayor of Castil de Campo.
