The trade union organization CCOO has indicated that the current “adjustment and zero hiring” policy of the Correos management is “clearly insufficient” to cope with the exceptional workload posed by these two processes. The union considers an extraordinary reinforcement essential to guarantee the quality of the public postal service and the correct development of both procedures.
The staff shortage affects offices and delivery units throughout the province of Córdoba, with centers operating “far below their actual staffing needs.” Worrying cases are mentioned in the capital, where delivery units lack staff due to unfulfilled retirements and transfers, and in towns such as Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, Pozoblanco, Villanueva de Córdoba, Montilla, and Lucena, where temporary disability leaves are not being covered.
“"This lack of hiring can slow down, and even jeopardize and collapse the correct admission, processing, and timely delivery of both electoral documentation and applications related to the migrant regularization process."
In Doña Mencía, a municipality with 4,465 inhabitants, there are no postmen assigned to the local office, with deliveries being covered by staff from Baena. Furthermore, in Palma del Río and La Carlota, part-time workers have not been able to secure full-time positions in the latest transfer allocation, despite being first on the list.
The union has also warned that prioritizing the sale of insurance or the migrant regularization process in offices could “pose a risk to the correct admission, processing, and timely delivery of postal votes.” This situation is exacerbated in offices with a high influx of regularization applicants, such as the Main Office on Cruz Conde street and branches 1 (Sector Sur) and 4 (Libia).
The union insists that the company must “urgently” reinforce its staff in delivery, offices, and logistics to ensure citizens' right to vote and normal access to Correos services during these important processes.
